History
Doxorubicin (14-OH-daunorubicin) is an anthracycline antibiotic, produced by Streptomyces bacteria that is used widely in cancer chemotherapy regimens. The most commonly used brand names are Adriamycin and Doxil, which is a liposome encapsulated version of the drug. The major dose limiting toxicity of doxorubicin is myocardial and the liposomal formulation is somewhat less toxic.
